There’s a great Simon Sinek story where he asks a barista whether he liked his job. Without batting an eye, the guy said that he loved his job. On the other hand, the barista continued, he just counts the hours at another hotel where he also served up lattes.
What was different? At the first place the leadership asked how he was doing and what he needed. At the second? They watched to see when he would screw up.
Sometimes with all the talk about the entrepreneur’s lifestyle and freedom — we forget that entrepreneurship isn’t simply for us to “lead” or to “be in charge.” It’s for us to serve and provide what people need — many of who are the very employees that some look down upon. They’re the real reasons why we exist.
