Reading. It’s an important thing to do and an even more important thing to do quickly. Tai Lopez, in his seminal treatise on reading titled “Here In My Garage (Official): Lamborghini, Knowledge, And Books”, argues that reading a book a day leads to overnight success, especially when paired with a paid subscription to his “Mentorship” club. In this post, I’ll show you how to take this concept to the next level, break free of all the normal constraints, and read 10 books a day!
Step 1: Use Audiobooks!
It can be very hard to find the time to sit down, get some peace and quiet, and focus on a good book. Audiobooks allow you to multitask! I often listen to audiobooks while walking the dog, doing the dishes, or running errands.
Step 2: Speed it Up!
By default, most narrators speak… very… slowly… pump it up to 2x or beyond to crank through the material faster. It can take some getting used to, but it will pay off when you start finishing books twice as fast.
Step 3: Book Selection!
Realistically, when you’re shooting for 10 books a day, you simply can’t afford to pick up a War and Peace or an Infinite Jest. Those books are over a thousand pages! You could read ten 100-page books in that amount of time! Don’t get complicated, the only thing that matters here is amount of books you finish, so focus on finding the shortest books possible, ideally young adult fiction or children’s books.
Step 4: Use Movies!
Here’s some basic math using the 5th Harry Potter book as an example. The Order of the Phoenix is 896 pages long and the audiobook is 27 hours long, which at 2x speed is 13.5 hours. That’s still far too long to read when you’re shooting for 10 books a day. The movie however is only 2 hours and 22 minutes long. Bingo! Download the audio of the movie and listen to that on 2x speed, and you’re well on your way to hitting 10 books a day!
Step 5: Go 3D!
The brain has two hemispheres, meaning you can probably process two things at the same time. 3D TVs are a commodity these days and there is open-source software for encoding 3D movies. Simply take two of the books you intend to read in movie form and encode them together in a single 3D movie. The left eye will be processing one movie while the right eye processes the other. Congratulations you just doubled your reading speed!
Follow these 5 easy steps and you’ll be reading 10 books a day in no time. If it feels like you’re sacrificing some of what makes reading enjoyable, just imagine the look on your friends faces when you tell them that you read 10 times faster than Tai Lopez!
