I would just add this: I am a professional maker.

To be fair, I don’t think Andy was trying to deliberately be exclusionary. I just don’t think he gave anyone but himself and the small set of people just like him any thought at all. (his theory on the difference between engineering and design was similarly ignorant.)

It was just clear that in his world, where he NEVER has to settle, people who aren’t like him do. They have to settle for Dell-like complexity in choosing a machine. They have to settle for needing a nerd to help them pick the machine they want. They have to settle for giving up the things they love Apple for just so he can have his perfect keyboard.

And in all of that, it never occurred to him that there are people who would think his “perfect keyboard” was shit on a cracker. Because after all, he’s a nerd, and he knows better.
