Well, I left off the “Arguing from authority” bit. My first wife was also an RN and thought the “Mammary Mafia” as she put it was the worst thing that happened to breast feeding. The relentless guilt, the unceasing pressure, and heaven help you if you didn’t agree with all of it, because then you got:
I CALL BULLSHIT READ THE PEER REVIEWED STUDIES.
Welp, the actual studies, which I have read do talk about actual real benefits to breast feeding. But it doesn’t make the kid smarter or any of that idiocy. It’s about what you’d expect. However, not breastfeeding, regardless of reason doesn’t make you a bad person. It doesn’t make you wrong. It makes you someone who doesn’t breast feed. You’re not abusing the kid, you’re not depriving them, they won’t grow up sickly and weak, they won’t grow up with weak immune systems, a low IQ and bad taste in shoes.
It just means you’re feeding your kid via something that isn’t a breast.
But by all means, continue screaming at people. I’m sure you’ll change all the minds that way. Perhaps you should do it in person, the next time you see someone feeding a baby formula. Get right up in their faces and scream at them, like you’re doing here. They’ll really appreciate how much you care.
