Game of Thrones is like real life
There are so many parallels in George R.R. Martin’s epic Song of Ice and Fire series to real life that it is astounding. Every time I wake up on a Monday morning, step out the door, and even the winos on my street are talking about Cersei being ‘one rowdy b*tch’ I realize GoT is basically a mirror to real life.
You don’t see it? Let me give you some rock solid examples. Disclaimer: I don’t watch the show, though I have seen some. Disclaimer 2: I read the books like 5 years ago. Disclaimer 3: I don’t know what the R.R. Stands for at all.
The Wall is the same as Our Wall
Think about it. There’s this whole contingent of people who do not want the Wildlings to come past the border into their land. Sure, there’s plenty of space and resources aren’t exactly scant. They just don’t want them. They are ‘different’. They speak a different language. One of them has been kissed by fire and was previously a maid on Downton Abbey.
If the North can accept the Wildlings, then paralleled into our own American Life, I think we can accept Canadians for who they are.
Dragons = Drones
I’m just saying what everyone is thinking: Martin has definitely built in some commentary on the over-militarization of our American defense capabilities. Everyone on the ground is fighting with swords and bows and arrows, and here comes Dany with enormous lizards that breathe flesh-melting fire.
The Stark Kids are Kind of Like the Kardashians
I don’t watch the show, but all I hear about is how mean and bratty they all are. One of the, Bran, takes control of whoever’s mind he wants. That’s definitely a parallel to how being a senseless vapid shell like Kim K. has single-handedly wrecked any moral compass we offered as a millennial generation to the world.
I can’t be the only person who is noticing this.
And on and on
The list goes on and on. It’s basically like you could hold up the New York Times next to the TV and basically have the script for the show. Ned is like Obama, Cersei is Angela Merkel, Hodor is like Trump. It’s eerie!
I would take it with a grain of salt, though. As you can clearly tell, the people on the show definitely treat each other a lot nicer than we do in real life.
