Poetry — The Story of Little Miss Submarine
I’ll tell you a story about a girl
called Little Miss Submarine
This girl who had the sweetest smile
which you had ever seen.
You may have heard this once before
you’ll hear it once again
The story of a girl smiling sweet
to cover up her pain.
The way it goes, you can predict
she loved so trustingly
He took her heart then sailed away
and dropped it in the sea.
The reason for him doing so
seems foolish if it’s told
He did not know the value
of the heart he would not hold.
So if you asked her how she is
she’ll smile and say “Surviving”
But nights when noone else is around
she will secretly go diving.
The vacuum of a lost heart
she’s just too ashamed to show
She screams into the silence
of the murky depths below.
The truth that she once knew
of her true value was in doubt,
She drinks a bitter ocean deep
to drown the feelings out.
Is that the final chapter then?
Does nothing good emerge?
Does her life just descend
into a woeful, bitter dirge?
No
That is not where this story ends
That is not God’s desire.
The Heart’s Maker will hear and share
the cry of this heart’s crier.
So be amazed at what unfolds
The miracle in store
Along the beach she walked one day
Her heart had washed ashore!
She rinsed it off and held it high
let out a childlike roar
and smiled a bigger smile than
you had ever seen before.
It was a life without a heart
she thought she’d been assigned
But restoration is God’s art
The lost things He will find.
She might recall these former days
those thoughts are simply fleeting
Remind her just how far she’s come
and her heart is there and it’s beating.
So to my sisters and my friends
You all know who you are
For those who are nearby me
and for those who’ve journeyed far
Yes it is true, past memories rise
and might give way to pain
but joyful times will be restored
and smiles return again.
The years can pass, stories repeat
but some truths stick around:-
Love will win
Hope can float
and a good heart can’t stay down
