Our book launch was botched and it’s been crazy at work trying to fix it

Skin in the game comes mainly through wrestling through a problem personally. You did all the work for the publisher. The people doing the work didn’t see the value of the extra payment for rights. Very few people at Harper even had to think about your book launch. You edited it, designed it, illustrated, and marketed it. That means none of those teams at Harper had to engage, wrestle, and think about the work to get your book launched successfully.

Once you disengage most of their teams, I’d expect a lot ofcompanies to fail in their normal processes. Unless they are set up to handle and routinely do book launches like the one you served up to them on a silver platter, I would expect cracks to show up quickly.
