Interesting read. Are you sure that the amygdala hasn’t evolved at all in last 100,000 or 1,000,000 years? It may not have grown as much as the cerebrum, but it’s unlikely to have not evolved at all.

For many people alive today (refugees, for example), an alert amygdala may be quite useful.

LeDoux’s research indicates that there are direct neural connections from the cortex back down to the amygdala. This is likely how mindfulness is effective. Awareness of the real risk of a situation can, with practice, moderate the amygdala’s response.
