Just as there is no technology industry, there are no technology departments inside companies. In my sector, education, I’ve seen schools add bloated and isolated information technology departments that have simply taken over significant portions of roles previously handled by human resources, curriculum, budgeting, transportation and even counseling. This was necessary at one time when a user needed a Computer Science degree to work with a basic employment database. But as the tech becomes more accessible, functions are better served by being integrated into the departments created to handle HR, finance or travel. We are all part of the technology department now — even in learning.
