I’m about 5 feet tall. My wife is 5–10. (Thank you!!) My daughter will be taller than me in about a year and she’s 8!! My son is on the small side. The smallest kid in school. Just like daddy was in the 70s. We come in all shapes and sizes. But recently I read an article about Mark Zuckerberg regarding his height and how they’ve been trying to cover up his short stature as if he has some strange secret like a crazy aunt in the basement. I think Mark has been brilliant navigating in the environment he created and with all the privacy issues that I’m sure will be the main topic of his whole career. But that’s a story for another time. Today it’s about being short and how people view us. I was raised by grandparents and a mom that gave me the confidence to do and be whatever I want so I became a musician, played in bands, recorded records, acted written and shot films and now started a media company. I still have a lot more to do but I feel it’s my responsibility to fight for the little guy! (See what I did there?) The ability of a man is measured by how others view him and how much he can contribute to his family, friends and the world. The great Maya Angelou said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
In the next few years my life will be devoted to creating a huge business and helping people. This is not to say that I will be a saint. I love communication and sometimes I say things that will cause a big mess. Not bad for a little guy huh!!?? 😉 But in the end, I want to be remembered for making the world a better place and not for the short elephant in the room. Thank you for reading. JHS
