How To Shut Up
Lessons In Knowing My Role And Shutting My Mouth
(A special thanks to both Dr. Kimeka Campbell of Black News Beat and follower and fellow creator I Am Love for their respective significant contributions to the inspiration of this article.)
There’s a conversation happening, here in early-mid March 2024 about a fairly prominent person of color who portrays themselves as an activist and person of the people but is widely perceived and understood to be a big song and dance who’s mostly out to put himself out front in every conversation.
This conversation revolves around his latest “announcement” and some sort of religious conversion and the broad perception that it’s just another self-serving publicity stunt.
This perception has merit, and I agree with it, and it’s good that people see it. I have many thoughts; some biting and incisive, others less serious and more snarky or funny.
I will not be sharing those thoughts.
I’m not getting into specifics about this person like their name or why they’re particularly under discussion now.
This article isn’t about that, you see. This article is about knowing when to shut up.
This is a time when I need to shut up.
