News Reinvented

Journalism for the rest of us

An idea that’s been 8 months in the making is finally making its debut today. It started off as a platform to deliver the top ten most beautiful and emotional photos in the world every day. As time went on, Fresco evolved into something much more than that.

Get your news through extremely beautiful and descriptive photos

Fresco is a radically new way for you to receive your news. A way that is completely visual, emotional, jaw dropping, and informative. Instead of reading through headlines, you flick through incredibly captivating images that represent real world stories going on in your neighborhood and the world. Images come from our own network of top notch photographers. Think of it as a combination of a highly curated, better quality version of Instagram paired with Humans of New York.

News stories are sorted by location. Subscribe to the places you’re interested in.

This is an app that I believe could have an absolutely enormous impact on the world. There are some major problems we’re trying to solve here:

  1. My generation (13-35) simply does not read newspapers or news websites. In fact, if we do receive any news, it’s through a potentially inaccurate 140 character tweet or a Facebook post. There is a huge problem here. We’ll read a tweet about some monumental event happening in the world and in most cases, we’ll be satisfied with that…a 140 summary of something that really has far more context.
  2. News lacks raw emotion. If you hear through Facebook or Twitter about something terrible happening, you read it and move on. There is a huge lack of emotional transfer in the current state of news.
  3. Large news organizations are declining in readership. What Fresco does is combine an Instagram style feed with the most beautiful, captivating, and informative photos available. What this results in is a much faster way to consume news. Tapping on a photo will bring you to a beautiful detail page with an extended caption as well several full length article options for further reading. Sources such as New York Times or CNN will be available. It’s my hope that not only will Fresco provide a way for you to receive news faster and more enjoyably, but it will entice you into reading a full article about the photo you’re looking at.

I started this company less than a month ago and I’m incredibly proud of the progress thus far. In a matter of weeks, an amazing team has been assembled, a completely working prototype is near finished, and we plan to enter beta testing stage by mid-march. Version 1.0 of the mobile app is set to be released by May.

We just launched our website. Check it out here. Also, I want to hear any feedback you have! Reach out on twitter @johnhmeyer123! Lastly, be sure to sign up with your email so I could get you on our beta list!
