The startup league
The startup space reminds of the NBA. Right now there are thousands of people with the dream of making it to the league. You know creating the next Facebook, twitter, or instagram. They are putting in the grueling hours of practice to ensure their game is solid. Kinda like working til 4 a.m. for weeks adding a new feature. Some are in high school. Some in college. Some from low-income households, and others from more privileged situations. A small percentage have a natural gift for the game, whereas most have to put in the 10,000 hours. Many will get distracted along the way like Len Bias and never see their glory. A few will get injured and never recover from the setback. The resilient will pivot like Odeo, who morphed into twitter after Apple monopolized the podcast industry.
There are only so many slots in the draft. Just enough room for a few. And the best will not always make it to the league.
