Don’t throw sand over my eyes. On the burkini ban and European cruelty

I posted the same story on facebook with a slant of police state just before I read your post.

However, my brief period on Medium to date seems to have gotten me mired in debating feminism… for better or worse. But before you try to bag where I am coming from — something we maybe should never do to each other in any case — let me say that it is possible to share your disgust and emotional repulsion at the things you recount without buying into the feminist rhetoric.

You write The white, cruel European patriarchy wants us dead or undignified, preferably as part of a non consensual porn scenario.

Society is made of humans. So exactly which part of humanity are you referring to by such a statement — and does it include me? Because if it does, do you really expect me to accept that comment any more than you would accept a similarly damning comment made of yourself?

I repeat, it is possible to share your disgust and emotional repulsion at the things you recount without buying into the feminist rhetoric.

The real question here is: Is feminism about establishing a confrontational and political power base, or is it about building bridges of understanding among the diverse peoples of this world? Basically, I consider these two things mutually exclusive, and it often appears as if the former is the priority of many self-identified feminists. This is regrettable.
