Maybe like you, I started a response but realized it would be too confrontational to go anywhere, and so I abandoned it.
FYI: I believe Bill Gates’ parents were millionaires, and he definitely used some dubious strategies to develop a near monopoly of an industry sector. The greedy succeed, and they then use their wealth to purchase self-righteousness. The rest are generally so indoctrinated with this idea that stuff = happiness that they envy them.
As a non-US citizen, what continues to strike me is the lack of domestic comment about the imperialistic nature by which the US all but rules the world — financially, militarily and geopolitically.
Having never been invaded, it has by far the largest military spending of any nation — some say its budget outstrips ALL other nations COMBINED.
Closely related are its near-1,000 military bases around the world — more than 10 times the number of ALL other nations COMBINED.
It has by far the longest list of regimes toppled by any country in all history — mostly for business interests. Iraq and Libya are two recent examples, both having tried to exit the petrodollar before they were destroyed — a fact I doubt few US citizens even know never mind reflect on.
It is no coincidence that Smedley Butler, the US’s most decorated military man stated:
“I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902–1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.”
Quite simply, The USA is the biggest global empire in all history.
I have tried to discuss this stuff with the OP, but many seemingly do not like that pesky thing called ‘truth’.
