It is a title that likely derives from old-fashioned woodworking, metal shaping, and fabrications of physical products.

In 2023, the term has expanded into the scope of a job title that fits much more than inventive and physical products now.
A product designer can be working on a virtual machine, a graphics card, software that sells as “the cloud networking mode,” or intangible services like a business case study, software recommendation, and education.
