Five Minute Coffee

Master the French Press once and for all.

Never make a bad coffee again - a five minute guide to great coffee.

You’ll need: A cafetiere, about 30 grams of coarse-medium ground coffee (for 2-3 mugs), a kettle and water.

Boil the kettle

Preheat the cafetiere with a little hot water, this helps maintain the optimum brewing temperature - then leave the rest of the water to cool for 30 seconds.

Brewing

Empty the water from the cafetiere. Pour the coffee in and add a little water (just enough to cover the coffee) and mix slowly, lifting the grains as you stir. Do this for 30 seconds.

Fill the cafetiere with the remaining hot water from the kettle, lightly stir and then allow to brew for four minutes.

Use a spoon to remove some of the floating grains - this prevents a bitter taste.

Take the plunge

Your coffee is ready - plunge slowly to avoid the grains escaping. Pour. Enjoy.
