I’ll be the first dissenting voice, then.
Starting a bricks and mortar store is very difficult, as partially detailed in the article. It requires full commitment to a specific mindset called “shopkeeper mentality”, which focuses attention on the tiniest details of selling one item to one customer at a time. This might have been a good way to get started in business in 1883, but it is generally not a good idea today.
If a person has the skills (technical, entrepreneurial, social) to tackle a wider-scale market, they would be making a mistake diverting their capital, energy and talent to opening a single bricks-and-mortar store. If they want experience in the tea store business, just go work in one for a few months.
