Unfortunately, the legacy of colonialism does not necessarily mean that an experience of another culture will cause one to reject their own as normative. In fact, if colonialism did one thing well, it was to ensure that visitors to another culture can orientalize it, which actually entrenches the normative nature of Western European culture. “Look how strangely they act,” rather than “look at the completely understandable and sensible way they have to do that.”

Still, it would definitely do more good than it would harm.
