5 Steps to Making Your Bedroom Look Bigger
Tips and tricks
A bedroom is a sacred space, a place that should be peaceful and calm, somewhere you can rest in comfort. Quiet often bedrooms are not the biggest rooms in the house unless we are lucky enough to have a mansion with dressing rooms and oodles of space. So what can you do to make your bedroom look bigger?
1. First, which is good practice anywhere and especially for the bedroom is to declutter and use the space and furniture you have well, under bed storage is a great way to utilise an otherwise dust and sock trap, plenty of places sell vacuum bags and plastic boxes and shoe boxes that are designed to fit under beds, some even have wheels, check the size of the space first though to save buying things that will not fit.
2. Moving on to the dressing table, this area can easily become cluttered as its used every day and most people are rushing to get off to work and tend to leave things to stack up, its good to get a good sized jewellery box, one that you can fit all that you use in it rather that have two or three that will make a space look untidy. Using a small draw unit is a great idea to store cosmetics and beauty products out of site.
3. Your mirror will be key in creating depth in the room, the bigger the better. Fit them to wardrobes doors but keep them clean, if they get too dusty they prevent the light reflecting which defeats the object and this goes for windows too. Window extend your inside space to the outside and again the bigger the better, when dressing your windows do not cover them too much otherwise you will be minimising the natural light entering the room.
4. Light colour schemes are also key in creating a spacious look, reflecting light they open up a space when dark colours would drawn it in. Good colour combinations are also essential, light blues and greens create a feeling of openness and using slightly darker shades on door and window surrounds will add depth to a room. If you want a splash of colour add a favourite wall hanging or place some colourful cushions on the bed that will compliment what you have put on the walls
5. When it comes to furniture its best to place tall items along a wall and arrange it so that the view across the room is not blocked, storage units of any kind are always helpful and your local handyman could easily make some to fit a small space that is otherwise wasted.
