This take didn’t age well at all. Not that there wasn’t already sufficient evidence against your claim that Donald Trump isn’t racist before this article was published. This was a man who spent nearly all of his energy at one time condemning the nation’s first black president on the grounds that he was not an American based on nothing less than the colour of his skin. This is a man who at every turn fails to sufficiently condemn white nationalists, and often intentionally surrounds himself with them. This is a man who tells police officers to be rough with criminals in a nation where policing disproportionately targets people of colour. I shouldn’t even call him a human man. He is everything I believe we can and should make humanity not.
This being said, Rowling’s writing neither appeals to me stylistically, nor do her political opinions, because they both are tailored for mass appeal. Dumbledore was gay, but if this was important enough to tell us, why didn’t she put it in the books instead of waiting until the time was right for a media frenzy, especially ones which are designed for kids who are growing up and trying to understand what life, death, and love mean? She turned her back on her queer audience before she even began. I could go on criticizing her and her sloppy writing, but everyone is tired of talking about this person. Political comparisons to Harry Potter are now largely considered obnoxious and culturally passé, just like her, and just like this article.
