I never understood this, how could the first person to answer the text-recognition captcha be evaluated? Wouldn’t the correct answer need to be known already? If so, then it’s a waste of time.

Or is that the one that you know you got correct, but since the answer wasn’t known in advance, you were told your answer was wrong, and then your answer was recorded for the next person? If so that is definitely evil, Google.
