As a new resident to Birmingham, Alabama, I was eager and excited to explore the town and find the best date spots to bring my wife to. Below I have listed some spots in Birmingham and the surrounding areas that I think make excellent date choices. These are certainly not the only spots, but just some of what I’ve stumbled upon so far.

This list is to help provide some insight for all those that might not know the Birmingham area too well:

Plan a picnic at Oak Mountain State Park

A great place to take a date who is looking for an active day outdoors. This is a gorgeous and easily accessible spot to spend the day hiking, running, biking, swimming, or canoeing!

Grab some delicious BBQ at Saw’s

Whoever said Alabama wasn’t home to the best BBQ clearly never ate here. Whether at Saw’s BBQ in Homewood, Saw’s Soul Kitchen in Avondale, or Saw’s Juke Joint in Crestline, your whole world is about to change. I have heard that you must try the smoked chicken sandwich with white BBQ sauce!

Watch a movie at the Alabama Theater

Built in 1927, it’s one of the most beautiful buildings in Birmingham. They have a wonderful Christmas movie series that I’m very excited about, and I’ve also heard of their Harry Potter marathons, summer movie shows, and annual Rocky Horror Picture show (along with pre-movie singalongs!).

Go hiking at Red Mountain Park

They’re beautiful, have fascinating iron mining relics, and some pretty stunning views. Make a checklist of the major lookouts and treehouses and find them all! This serene haven is home to some beautiful trails and even more beautiful cliff views, and also one of the most beutiful places to catch the sunset — a great place to bring a date.

Attend a baseball game at Regions Field

Birmingham’s newly-built baseball stadium has helped revive downtown and made it into a fun and happening area. It features a beautiful view of the city (perfect during a sunset) and is conveniently located across from Good People Brewing Company– Birmingham’s famous local brewery! I also recommend going there before or after the game to grab a house brewed drink!

Enjoy a sunny day at Railroad Park

Railroad Park is a 19 acre green space in downtown Birmingham that celebrates the industrial and artistic heritage of Birmingham. If you’re looking for an active date, check out one of their free exercise classes!

Float down the Cahaba River

Grab a tube and float down the Cahaba River on a hot summer day. You can also canoe, kayak, swim, and, if you two are feeling bold, jump in using one of the rope swings!

Have fun and please come back and let me know what you thought of any of these fun date ideas!
