Although we readily admit that America has benefitted from the post WWII economic and widespread development and strengthening of freer democracies and increased world trade, the problem with your recommendation is that we are unable to do expressly that: we cannot come to accept the value of, and the critical need, for refocusing on common values and common goods. Everywhere that you look those advocating for infrastructure rebuilding, increased resources for public schools, universal health care are shut down immediately as not worth the cost. America is frankly doomed to continue to slide; slide in international respect, decline in health outcomes, life expectancy and mortality, slide in eduational achievement, opportunity….
