Here’s the basic problem. With the exception of worker bees who are stockholders, they don’t own the company. They don’t decide what the company will or will not do, petitions and pink marching notwithstanding. Stray too far from what the CEO and Board wants, and they’ll be fired. If the CEO types and Board tank the stock value of a company because of political activism that is irrelevant to profit, they’ll soon find themselves involved in shareholder lawsuits.
