Learn How to Cook: From the Oven to the Recipe

Cooking makes no exception whatsoever. There are several ways to make it easier for you. For example, look at the kitchen cleaning. It’s so much more comfortable to cook over a clean stove. Imagine your kitchen drawer is a small “drug store”, while the spices — “the medicine” that’s needed to have a more delicious and spicier meal.

You do know the order in the drug stores, right? There are thousands of medicine packs — order is a must. You don’t want any chaos and spilled heaps of pepper and salt in your cupboards? Or mistake the sugar for salt?

Then follow the next steps:

Store the spices in glass containers/jars. Then you will guarantee yourself longer lasting and flavourful spices, which will be easy to use. You can accustom the last-year-jam jars or buy ones specifically made for spices (same shape and size, but different kinds of caps). The best is if the jars are with a cap-screw.

Avoid keeping the spices in their fabric packs (or in plastic bags if you buy them in bulk). This way you risk them spilling often and double your cleaning time. If you have no opportunity to buy or find space for jars, get some little rectangular boxes to put in the many little packs.

The oven — a frenemy

The oven is one of the most used appliances in the kitchen and it is without a doubt a good friend for a multitude of recipes.

It can easily turn into an enemy, if you keep close to it oil, spices or, as a whole, products, whose quality and lasting period can worsen.
Don’t keep the oil bottle adjacent or over the oven;
Move the spices to a safe distance;
Pick the farthest cupboard for the products that must be kept in a cool place.

Cleaning the oven is as important and finding and perfecting the right recipe. If your oven is dirty and smelly, it’s going to be quite hard for you to replicate a good enough meal. The average oven chamber gathers copious amounts of grime and food leftovers that turn into charred stains, making it even more difficult to clean after a long period of cooking. Therefore, if you take care of it more frequently, your cooker will stay in the safe zone. Be it yourself the one to apply some elbow grease and wipe out the dirty stove, or you choose to call the professional oven cleaners, it is up to you and you only.

Improvising is good, but not when you wait for important guests

When we make our first steps in the kitchen, it’s good to not show too much of our improvisation side. This happens with the natural time flow, experience and knowing the different products and their combinations, as well as the different culinary techniques.

But even if we have built up enough experience to improvise, that’s not an adequate choice when we have important guests coming over.

In order to avoid unpleasant situations:

Study your guests’ taste, if you are not familiar with it. Bear in mind their preferences before you pick a recipe. Definitely inform yourself if there are vegetarians or people with strong allergic reactions towards a certain product.

Don’t start a recipe, which you have never tried.
Don’t add a spice you’ve never cooked with.
Be sure your oven is clean and shiny — you don’t want any mess happening in your kitchen or your dishes mixing up their flavour because of burnt smell.

Try the meal before you serve it

It might sound logical to you, but actually it’s a very common mistake.

Before you serve what you cook, try it. Then you will save the unpleasant reactions from the rest of the crowd and you will have time to react;

Try to not stir the meal twice with the fork/spoon you’ve already licked. If you want to try it again, take another utensil or wash the used one. It’s best to take some of the meal in a separate plate to try it yourself.

Steam cook without a special utensil

You’ve often heard the advantages of steam cooking. The market also offers special kitchen tools that make the task easier.

But what can we do when we want to steam cook vegetables, but we don’t have a steamer?

Take a pot;
Pour the water;
Place a colander on top (as long as it is above the water surface), and put the sliced vegetables in it;
Cook the vegetables over the steam, until softened;

Don’t throw the sauce and broth leftovers

Sometimes we don’t use the whole amount of sauces and broths we’ve cooked. Be smart and don’t throw what’s left for you. Save it for the next cooking.

Use ice cube forms. Pour inside the chicken or vegetable broth and put them in the freezer.

After you freeze the broth, move the cubes in a comfortable box;

Store the box in the freezer, so that you always have ready cubes with home-made broth.
