Take time to ground.
It’s okay to rest
It’s okay to take a break and reboot. You are not being a bad or lazy person if you take time for yourself.
You can feel it, can’t you? The edge of frustration, anger and uncertainty?
Many people are on edge and their nervous systems are on fight/flight/freeze mode. Using all their capacity to be with what is… so what happens when you run out of energy? You get short, snippy, reactive, easily upset. You feel as if you don’t act right now your life will be in danger.
This is what it feels like to be “sympathetic on” — as if you are under attack, and each time you turn on the news or jump on social media, BAM another attack. GIVE YOUR BODY AND MIND A REST. Make sure you are taking care of yourself. Take time to ground.
Try this practice: Observe your thoughts.
- Find a comfortable place to sit or lie down.
- Bring your attention to the most revealing thought, emotion or belief in your mind right now.
- Where do you feel that in your body.
- Sense what’s arising in the body in the form of pulsations, vibration, etc.
- Be with that sensation, welcome it, invite it in, feel it, embrace it.
- Then rest back and simply observe these sensations.
- Allow these sensations to fully manifest, to arise unfold and dissolve. Coming and going.
- Witnessing without judgment or comment. Not good or bad. Just sensation moving through.
- Bring your attention to your heart center and with a deep sense of love, peace and contentment say to yourself “I’m taking care of myself and in doing so I’m taking care of the world around me”.
- Open your eyes and come back to the world with a newfound sense of openness and clarity.
- REPEAT with eyes open or closed until the desired affect is achieved.
This practice helps build capacity so that, in taking care of you, you can take care of others. Simple as that.
Observing our thoughts and emotions reminds us that we can chose to be our emotions and thoughts or be the observer, witnessing our emotions and thoughts. This is the waking version of Yoga Nidra. To learn more check out the upcoming Amrit Yoga Nidra Immersion in Los Angeles or Connecticut on my web site johnvosler.com.
One thing to be thankful for is that we are experiencing a lot of opportunities to practice waking Yoga Nidra. Try to approach social media, the news and talking to friends as an opportunity to practice waking yoga Nidra. In doing so you will be less affected by the latest tweet or post and build capacity to move yourself and the world forward.
Peace,
