The Curse of the Billy Goat is Dead!

The curse that was supposedly placed on the Chicago Cubs baseball franchise in 1945 by Billy Goat Tavern owner Billy Sianis is over! Because the odor of Murphy, his pet goat, was bothering other fans, Sianis was asked to leave game 4 of the 1945 World Series against the Detroit Tigers at the Cubs' home ballpark of Wrigley Field. Outraged, Sianis allegedly declared "Them Cubs, they ain’t gonna win no more," which has been interpreted to mean that either the Cubs would never win another National League Pennant or else that they would never again win a World Series.

The Cubs have not won a World Series championship since 1908, and did not play in the World Series for 71 years after the incident with Billy Sianis and Murphy.

46 years to the day of Billy Sianis' death the Cubs advanced to the 2016 World Series, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the 2016 National League Championship Series. They will play the Cleveland Indians, who have also had a curse of their own Both teams will now attempt to fully break their curse.
