As a generation with so much access to the internet and different media platforms, we often fail to acknowledge the huge role that the media plays in our everyday lives by keeping us aware of current events.

If it wasn’t for the media, we wouldn’t be able to keep up with the latest news or the latest trends. The media is an outlet with endless possibilities.

Although, we are trained to believe that law enforcement officers are the ones to thank when it comes to catching people that have done wrong, the media plays just as big of a role.

Journalists investigate and interview several people in order to do their work.

While the media does cover more positive news, it also plays a major part in bringing justice into fruition and allowing the public to become aware about things that are going on behind the scenes.

The media is responsible for exposing the wrongdoings of people in positions of power as well as those below them. It’s their job to bring illegal situations and scandals that would have otherwise been kept private, to the light.

Without the media, a lot of crimes would fly under the radar.

Journalists jobs are so important because it is up to them to truthfully report things that are going on in the world like politics.

The film’s “Spotlight” and “All the President’s Men” did an excellent job at showcasing how major of a role that the media plays. In both movies, the outcome of the cases were very strongly impacted by the journalists covering those cases.

The journalists in Spotlight and All the President’s Men did their best to get to the facts of both of these cases and they succeeded. Due to their commitment, justice was served in both incidents.

Both of these films were set in the past so it is ideal to believe that journalism has only gotten better and that these cases serve as a blueprint on how dedicated a journalist should be to find the truth.

I feel that if the journalists in these films had not reported on the events portrayed, the crimes that were taking place would have continued to occur.

The criminals in both of these cases were people in positions of power and if they hadn’t been confronted, they would have continued taking advantage of people that were relying on them to do the right thing by them.

Honestly, prior to these films, I had never realized how much work journalists did behind the scenes.

I feel that people in positions of power often try to take away from the credibility of those in the media because they know the media’s sole purpose is to expose the things that they do wrong.

Serious journalism is very necessary in the current political climate in the United States. People do rely on the media to truthfully report things that the public needs to know.
