3 things I learned from ONE THING

HAHAHA. Natawa ako sa title ko. 3 things from 1 thing. HAHAHA
Okay game.
1. Ask myself “What’s my One thing I can do right now to achieve ____”
The thing that the book really advocates is to continuously ask this question. Try it right now. Ask this and just fill in the blanks whether it’s your fitness goal or academic goal or whatever the fuck you want to achieve.
So here’s the usual scenario with me. I go home, I check my to-do list and guess what happens? I panic because I find A LOT OF THINGS to do. I then imagine doing them and how much time I would spend doing it and all the other scenarios. I overthink and it paralyzes me. Ever had something like that? You just imagine ALL THE SHIT you have to do, and then wala tatamarin ka na lang.
After reading the book, I tried doing what the book said.
I would ask myself that question.
“What’s the one thing I can do right now so I can finish this to-do list”
Then I would go pick a subject that I know would be a priority.
“What’s the one thing I can do right now to achieve this Philosophy (or any other priority) homework”
What’s happening here is that I steady my mind with this question and focusing on one single task and completely setting aside the other shit for the time being.
No use worrying about the other shit anyway.
Well for now at least.
2. Saying yes to everyone is saying yes to nothing.
One of the things I’m learning right now is saying no. It’s a very difficult word for me to say especially if I’m asked by a close friend. Nakakahiya eh.
Now that I’m in the 4th year of college, I’m starting to realize that some of the things I’m saying yes to, might be hurting me.
When I was in second year, I joined a lot of orgs and decided to try and become really active.
When I said yes to those orgs, there were events on weekends and things to do behind the scenes that would take up my time. A lot of meetings and all the other stuff I do not want to expound on. Wow bitter
In effect, I said no to going home on weekends to my parents (sorry mom and dad) and it also meant not being able as much to go out and have time to myself.
I’m not saying that orgs are bad but there are things you gain and things you lose. Katulad ng tulog mo. Nawawala din yan HAHAHA
There were also times when I remember being a project head for ARSA. It took up time and it also took a toll emotionally and physically.
Not saying you shouldn’t be a project head or join orgs, in fact it is a great experience and I encourage everyone to try.
But there’s a line that has to be drawn.
Now that I’m in the last year of college, I’ve decided to lessen my activity in organizations because I’m going to focus on other things now. I’m saying no to orgs but saying yes to my family. I’m saying yes to time for myself like reading and writing. Yes to relationships. ( landi amp )
“Eh Jolo Kayang kaya naman lahat eh baka di ka lang marunong mag time management”
Kung kaya mo lahat edi gawin mo! Walang pumipigil sa’yo. Pero hindi lahat ng tao katulad mo. Kumbaga kanya kanyang trip lang mga sir.
I’ve said yes to so many things these past 3 years and now that I’ve found out what matters to me, there’s no need to saying yes to other things.
Find out what’s worth saying yes to!
3. When you strive for greatness, chaos is guaranteed to show up. Get used to it and get over it.
I remember that time when I was back at home and it was an extended summer break because of the calendar shift to Augus., WALA AKONG MAGAWA SA BAHAY!
I would wake up, play basketball, eat, then sleep, then eat some more and you know how the rest goes.
Sobrang bored ko.
Sabi ko sa sarili ko. “Masaya pala yung may ginagawa, ayoko na ng ganito yung wala kang ginagawa”.
And now whenever I would stress out about all the things I had to do,
I’d sometimes recall that conversation to myself.
Kapag marami kang ginagawa, palaging magkakaproblema. Tanggapin na lang natin at imbis na magreklamo, gawin na lang di ba?
(Hindi ko naman sinasabing perpekto ako, nagrereklamo pa rin ako minsan. Minsan dami ko nga masyadong sinasabi.)
Gusto mo stress free? Ayun try mo maging tambay sa bahay HAHAHAHA
Now that I’m a captain of the chess team, co-owning a food stall and it’s our final thesis for college, Chaos is for sure to come! Expect it and face it.
Pero nakakamiss ding maging tambay sa bahay.
