Workers, Women, and Government Watchdogs Thank Tester for Opposition to Gorsuch

AFL -CIO: Working Montanans Thank Senator Tester for Opposing Judge Gorsuch

“We’re proud to have a Senator like Jon Tester who won’t be swayed by deep-pocketed special interests spending dark money in Big Sky Country. Judge Gorsuch has a long history of siding with massive corporations over workers. In fact, Gorsuch once argued against workers in a case against a company that failed to adequately train a worker and caused his death and he even dissented from a decision that allowed back pay for an employee whose wages were illegally reduced.

The rules of the economy are already rigged against working Montanans. We don’t need another Supreme Court Justice who thinks companies have more rights than people. Working Montanans are grateful for Senator Tester’s advocacy on their behalf.”

End Citizens United: Tester Sides with Montana Families in Opposition to Gorsuch

“Montanans have a long history of fighting for reforms that give everyday people a voice in democracy. Jon Tester has upheld that tradition. He’s introduced bills to shine light on the secret money funding our elections and has put forth a constitutional amendment that strikes at the heart of Citizens United by declaring that corporations are not people. Neil Gorsuch would undermine those efforts.

“Judge Gorsuch has ruled that corporations are people. If confirmed, he would put the rights of corporations ahead of everyday Americans. He’d allow more money and less transparency in our elections, and he’d give big campaign donors more influence in our government — the exact opposite of what Montanans want.

“Jon Tester cited Judge Gorsuch’s record on money in politics as a reason he should not be confirmed, because Montanans have already seen the damage caused by disastrous Supreme Court decisions, such as Citizens United. The ruling led to a flood of unlimited and undisclosed money into our elections that’s polluting our politics, creating dysfunction in Washington, undermining our democracy, and eroding faith in government. In Montana, Super PAC and anonymous spending shot up by $14 million after Citizens United, and Montana’s strong anti-corruption law was struck down by the extreme wing of the Court.

“Corporate and special interests have already begun attacking Jon Tester through a web of shady and secret money organizations — because he’s standing up for the Montana value of open, honest government. End Citizens United is proud to stand alongside him as he leads the fight on behalf of hard-working Montanans and Americans who are being shut out of our democracy.”

Planned Parenthood: Senator Jon Tester Stands with Montana Women & Families by Opposing Supreme Court Nominee Neil Gorsuch

“Senator Jon Tester is a true champion for Montana women and families. Tester understands Gorsuch’s judicial philosophy and alarming record on reproductive rights leave no doubt that he would do everything in his power to restrict access to abortion and birth control access.

The Supreme Court has never been more important — it decides cases that determine a person’s fundamental right to decide whether and when to become a parent, the right to vote, and the right of all people in this country to be free from discrimination based on who they love, where they come from, their race, their gender, and their religious beliefs. Neil Gorsuch is wildly out of step with where the country is on these issues, and he is not fit to protect the rights and freedoms of Americans. The Senate must hold Gorsuch accountable for his dangerous record on reproductive health and rights — and must oppose his nomination.”
