Teachers know that young children’s attention is drawn to bright colors, motion, and sounds. They continue observing those objects as long as they are entertained. As images form in their minds, they love or dislike the messages that have been formed.

Every business can build its unique brand or product image by noting what attracts and holds attention. Children have shown how colors sounds and motions form unique images. Effectively displaying products in unique ways help people understand that the product has quality and value.

Television Commercials

Television offers the opportunity to display products in color, sound and motion. Entertaining commercials hold our attention and build images. As children do, we remember the ones, we like.

Colors

  • Products displayed in bright colors at the center of the screen attract our attention. We see the product and build an image. We will recall the image several times a day if the image sufficiently impresses us.

Sounds

  • The snappy jingle remains in the mind for several days. The customer repeats the product’s name each time he remembers the jingle The unique branding fills his memory.

Motion

  • We prefer motion to stillness, but motion should have a purpose. Motion that tells a story is easier to remember. It’s easier to replay in our minds, and products in the plot build images in our minds.

Radio Commercials

Many times television commercials will be played on the radio. The soundtrack may be effective, or some adjustments may be needed. If effective jingles are used during television commercials, advertisers should consider playing only the jingles in radio commercials.

If television scenes are not critical to the story, television dialog may be effective as a radio commercial.

Print Commercials

Effective television images may work well in print advertising. The image with a short description of the product can be effective as customers recall images and descriptions from other media.

Conclusion

Building images in the minds of customers creates a companies’ brand or product. The image must be unique to attract attention to the product.

Companies use colors, sounds and motion to create their unique image. Successful branding has customers visualizing, humming and saying. “That’s my favorite!” The leading company has a unique image that is recognized by the most people.
