If you are not a fan of Ultimate Fighting, it’s very possible that you don’t know who Tim Kennedy is. Before listening to an episode of the Tim Ferris podcast from 2018, I certainly didn’t.

Kennedy is a former UFC middleweight contender who simultaneously served in the US Army as a Green Beret sniper and had tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq. He is a 3x winner of the Modern Army Combatives tournament, a multi-day event that tests mixed martial arts skills among other skills. While these accomplishments are impressive, Kennedy’s greatest differentiator is his mind.

“Diamonds don’t get made in gentle conditions. People are no different. You have to be willing to do the work if you want to find success.”

Ferris introduces Kennedy as someone who is “very good at game time decisions and acting under pressure”, which led to Kennedy explaining his rather unorthodox training style.

His self-proclaimed mantra “hurry up and fail” is what allows him to surpass physical limitations that most would crumble at. And Kennedy’s results speak for themselves.
