Dear future self…
It is easy to think about what we want. I want a new car, a better house, more flexibility at work, better work, less work and of course more money. After contemplating the definition of insanity and realizing that while it has not been 100% accurate as I have creeped closer to my supposed goal the pace definitely could use an energy drink…or if I am being honest a case of energy drinks.
The thought occurred to me to write down my schedule. Not a schedule for tomorrow but a schedule for my future self. What time would he wake up (I am fascinated with the daily schedules of successful people and pay close attention to when people wake up). What my workout routine would look like, my commute, time with my children & spouse. What my work day would look like. Making the schedule made me happy.
Then a second thought occurred to me. Maybe it’s not the stuff or the money that we really want. Maybe we just really want to become the person that gets the stuff in money. So instead of focusing on the end result focus completely on the habits that your future self would have. Commit to becoming that future self. Be specific and detailed. Make action items along the way on ways to improve your success. Focus.
The hypothesis is if you focus on becoming your future self that you aspire to be then the stuff that future self-has and the lifestyle that future self-enjoys will just manifest itself.
I'll check back in a few weeks and let you know if it's working…see you in the future.
