To be completely honest, i came into this album expecting a disappointment, like most of the recent Infected Mushroom releases. It seems that Infected Mushroom has struggled a fair bit with finding what part of their classic sound had a broad appeal, this has prohibited them for taking on new styles and made the recent releases bland. “Converting Vegetarians 2” however stands in stark contrast to all of that, something the authors seem to be aware of when titling this album as the successor to one of their most popular albums from 2003, called just “Converting Vegetarians”.
Attention to detail is probably the part of this album that shines the most, the production techniques the duo picked up over the years really shines with this release. Venturing from the old psychedelic trance into these experimental electronica while managing to keep so much of what constitutes the Infected Mushroom sounds makes the songs very interesting and compelling, it’s almost as if Postford been involved in this release. Ambient and downtempo is a clear focus on this album, which might be hard for IM fans to enjoy at first listen but trust me, it gets there fast enough.
“The Surgeon” is everything this album aspired to be, wrapped up in a neat jazz/electronic/psy crossover, ending the album on a high note.
