Hi Phil! Yes, technically that’s true, though we could likely reconcile who we’ve unsubscribed manually if we had to.
The larger point though — it doesn’t matter right now! We probably won’t want to email these people again anyway, at least not in this automated way. And if we change our minds later, we can always just adjust the process at that point forward.
Design requires admitting that you can’t do everything, so you have to choose the problems you care about and solve for those first. In this case, our first priority was to talk to people we don’t normally talk to, find out what they’re up to, what struggles they’re having, and so on. That way, we’ll learn how we can do a better job helping people who are just starting out with Basecamp. The results inform future design decisions we can make, both on our marketing website and in the product itself.
So, being able to target the same people later with future email campaigns is very low priority, relative to those goals.
