This past month I’ve had the amazing and very humbling opportunity to study leadership at Harvard University. Here are 8 short takeaways in leadership from the amazing Professor John Paul Rollert:

The best leaders carefully balance between a CHARISMATIC (emotion) and TECHNOCRATIC (factual expertise) leadership-style.

Appealing to VISCERAL senses (emotion) is more effectice than appealing to CEREBRAL senses (logic), and leaders who only lean on visceral appeal should be regarded with caution.

A leader is a ROLE MODEL at all times, whether they like it or not.

The best leaders are ADAPTABLE.

Seeking CONSTANT improvement and watching yourself with OBJECTIVE criticism is the best way to become a better leader.

Great leaders always LISTEN before they speak.

Your REPUTATION as a leader is one of your most valuable assets, so regard it with care. It is extremely difficult to change a reputation.

The best leaders have an OUTWARDS focus.

What is a leader to you?
