Random Roundup #22

The Lol:
I couldn’t choose between these two so today we have a doubleheader:
- Back in 2008, A British 19-year-old officially changed his name to “Captain Fantastic Faster Than Superman Spiderman Batman Wolverine Hulk And The Flash Combined.”
- People who tried to take panorama pictures but completely failed and ended up opening the gates of hell instead.
The Cringe:
Seen the GIF of a woman at an art gallery crouching for a selfie and knocking over an entire row of art?
The Woah:
These zoomed in pictures of bees will make you see them in an entirely new light (literally.)
And while we’re on the topic, spiders appear to offload some cognitive load to their webs.
The Problem Solver:
In 1945, George Polya published the book How To Solve It which sold over one million copies and has been translated into 17 languages.
In it he identifies four basic principles of problem-solving and, if interested, you won’t regret reading this 5-minute summary.
The Thought Provoking:
As big a fad as vegan bashing is, I implore you to put your prejudice aside and watch this pro-vegan short film “Norm.” (12 Minutes)
Using rape as an analogy for eating meat, this dialogue between two guys starts off a little uncomfortable but after a couple minutes settles down and will give you another perspective on the issue.
I’m still no vegan (not even a vegetarian) but I now at least get where they’re coming from — and I’ve gotta say that it makes quite a lot of sense…
The Startup:
“Start-up failures are not uncommon, but a billion-dollar company that has raised huge pools of money going belly up remains a rarity.”
This article takes a very interesting look at Jawbone’s demise as a result of overfunding.
The Distillery:
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”
Here’s a little exercise — list the five people you spend the most time with and next to each name write whether that person positively or negatively contributes to your life.
Your job is to surround yourself with those that bring you up, and the question you should be asking yourself is “what can I do to bring that average up?”
