I don’t know precisely how you understand the words you’ve quoted Larry; I see these things as, in a sense, figurative and poetic; but no less real, for all that.
C. S. Lewis said that it one wishes to read grown-up books, one must be prepared to be a grown-up, or else read childish things instead.
These words you mention are very powerful; and if they seem stale and trite to some, it may be that for many such people, they have never really heard them with the ears of their heart.
Anything can sound silly when it is viewed superficially as a dry, dusty, factual proposition.
But it doesn’t have to be.
These words can be very real; they certainly seem real to you.
