I think the following books deserve mention in the Continuing Education section.

  • “The Attention Merchants” by Tim Wu
  • “The Internet of Us: Knowing More and Understanding Less in the Age of Big Data” by Michael Patrick Lynch.

Overall, the article is nice. I have had some success by

  • Uninstalling the Facebook mobile application and Messenger.
  • Using Firefox for android more. If you open a link in Firefox from another app, it saves a tab without opening the browser, thereby ensuring it doesn’t steal your focus.
  • Turning off mobile data service whenever I’m reading ebooks, or articles locally, on my phone.
  • Putting my phone away at meal times, and looking at each family member and making some gist to connect more over the meal.
  • Saving articles I feel like checking out to Pocket, bookmarking them, or saving a tab in Firefox.
  • Turning off notification from most apps (including email, chats, Slack, Twitter, …).
  • Using a feed reader to catch up on content from specific sites.
