A deep dive into the iconic band and their legacy.

Two of the biggest hits of the 1980s belong to Mr. Mister, a band that disappeared almost as quickly as they apparently burst onto the music scene in late 1985. I say apparently because most casual observers are likely unaware that the band had been together in one form or another since 1978 and didn’t disband until 1990. That’s a pretty solid career for any group.

Mr. Mister released their second album, Welcome To The Real World, on November 27, 1985, (RCA Victor, catalog number AFL 1–7180). From this melodic classic rock album sprung two of the defining songs of that era.

The first was “Broken Wings,” which went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was ranked number five on the year-end chart for 1986. The second, the anthemic “Kyrie,” also hit number one and was ranked the number nine tune for 1986.
