The Problem with Design Thinking

I like your article. It’s nice that people appreciate that products, services and ideas, more generally, require tonnes of thinking and research. That’s good. It’s also nice that people appreciate critical thinking and the speculative practice too. That’s great! But in the vast majority of organisations the gap isn’t ideation, innovation, thinking, etc… it’s the quality of execution and stewardship of great ideas to be built and deliver value. Training people to think alone without material agency doesn’t unlock value. But as a formally trained designer working in ‘the government’’, I’m pleased that I’m well paid and able to go fishing on the weekends…
