Candy Hearts and Martyrs

Have you ever been walking past stacked aisles of candy, wondering how much people actually pay for roses and thought, “how did all this come to take place?” Valentine’s day, a celebration of love, has a storied past based in the Roman Empire. (see link) St. Valentine was actually martyred for his stand on Christian marriage in the hostile society and only much later came to be known as the patron saint of lovers.
What does this have to do with us? 1 Corinthians 13:7 exhorts,
“[Love] always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
This is a reminder that love is verified in the actions we take and as we read in Proverbs 21:21, we find life by actively pursuing love.
Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life prosperity and honor.
