Grade school in Arlington sending satellite into orbit

Students from St. Thomas More Cathedral School in Arlington, Virginia launched a small satellite to the ISS in December and are planning to have it in orbit by Feb. 15. They are the first grade school to do so, and are extremely proud of their accomplishment. One student, Gabriel MacPhail, hopes that “If something does go wrong and the satellite drifts out of low Earth orbit, maybe alien life will pick it up.”

Virginia Zoo sets up live web cam to observe infant tigers

On Jan. 6, two male Malayan tiger cubs were born at the Virginia Zoo. These animals are extremely endangered and the zoo already has two other tigers in its care. The zoo has set up a 24 hour web cam so spectators can observe them at any time of day.

Infant found dead in Rocky Mount trash bin

A 24-year-old woman has thrown her child into a Rocky Mount refuse site trash container, where it was found lifeless on Wednesday, Feb. 3. She had been admitted to the hospital for heavy bleeding, however, when she was questioned she denied that a birth had taken place. The infant’s body has been sent for an autopsy and authorities are waiting for the results.
