Bigger, Faster, Stronger

by Duncan Jones

When he heard about the grassland … he said, “There I must go!
For I’m the best there ever was and grassland beasts must know!”
The little birds all begged him singing songs, “Oh won’t you stay!”
But he went to seek the lions, went to seek them anyway!
When came no roar he said quite bored, “See! No one even tries!”
Though invisible beside him walked a pair of golden eyes
Then came the brilliant morrow, saw the daring standing tall
Returning from the grassland, “I am the best of all!”

When he heard about the jungle … he said, “There I must go!
For I’m the best there ever was and jungle beasts must know!”
The little birds all begged him singing songs, “Oh won’t you stay!”
But he went to seek the tigers, went to seek them anyway!
When he met no cat of orange and black he laughed, “This place is hyped!”
As he looked right at and then right past the silent tiger striped
Then came the brilliant morrow, saw the daring standing tall
Returning from the jungle, “I am the best of all!”

When he heard about the forest … he said, “There I must go!
For I’m the best there ever was and forest beasts must know!”
The little birds all begged him singing songs, “Oh won’t you stay!”
But he went to seek the wolf pack, went to seek them anyway!
And when none howled he shouted loud, “This place is mine with ease!”
He surely missed all twenty gliding swiftly through the trees
Then came the brilliant morrow, saw the daring standing tall
Returning from the forest, “I am the best of all!”

And he heard about the mountain, river, desert, and the sea
And time and time returning claimed, “None dare to mess with me!”
The little birds all begged him singing songs, “Oh won’t you stay!”
But he went to seek out every one, he sought them anyway!
The daring wandered near and far, to places out of sight
Daring all by day or night, daring all to test his might …
Now the birds upon the morrow wait, and they’ll be waiting longer
For if ye seek ye shall find in time one bigger, faster, stronger!
