The Wise King

by Duncan Jones

“Excuse us your grace,”
Said advisers in haste
“We’ve a matter in need of discussing
So ladies, good day
On your way si vous plait
For we’ve no place for gossip or fussing!”

Then the maps were rolled out
Quickly followed by shouts
Over politics, money, and trade
Such matters and more
Even talk about war
And some reckless decisions were made

Well they all had their votes
Sharing history’s quotes
Each proving the others quite weak
Then the King raised a hand
And with that took command
And at last it was his turn to speak

“This is all well and good
And yes I’ve understood
That some here see red, others green
But before I can say
I’ll need surely one day
To run all of these plans by the Queen … ”
