1.) Identifying the head coach and finding good options for your program

When first getting hired as an assistant coach to a certain school/program or team the school/program’s main goal is to try and help the head coach running the job find good and exceptionally gifted players find options for who best helps their squad out. As an assistant coach for a college team, many are trained to learn how to coach certain drills and certain tasks to make the program stand out and get more fans/viewers interested in attending a sporting event

2.) Let the year progress and evaluate

Many assistant coaches have to learn and be patient, and let the season progress before any changes or hires/fires are made. Many coaches and staff members tend to think the season is over after a couple of bad spots and bad miscues as a team occurs. Some programs have fired fire their coach in the middle or start of the season in any sport, it happens all the time at any level now compared to 20 years ago. The main goal is to stay calm and optimistic with your team can do and achieve and think everything should work out.

3.) Demonstrate a passion for learning

A staff member's job at any university or school’s goal is to create the best environment and opportunities for their players and staff to succeed. Another way to improve as a team or squad is to get better by listening to the coaches and other teammates that are trying to push you and make the team better every day. It’s good to have open communication and trust between a team, that is what makes a team fueled and ready to go on game day!

4.) Developing trust

It is important to build trust and to have good communication and feelings towards each other and certain plays. The point of the matter to all good teamwork and good teams is the way they can count on each other to make a certain play or situation turn into magic and success. Making sure all the athletes on your team are communicating and open-minded to having a good conversation is key and always a team value to most coaches and players.

5.) Find your niche.

Getting comfortable with your certain position or role on a team is always key to a great season and memorable moments that can be shared for a lifetime. Making moves and feeling confident in what you do and can accomplish can boost team chemistry and locker room talks that go more smoothly. It’s a team effort for a reason in sports and if perfection is expected then only failure will come, that’s why it’s good to optimistic and generous to others who are trying their best to make a team generate wins.
