I am a former Southern Baptist gay dude, who works in theater, and as a composer/pianist.So why would I read ,or respond to this? It’s because my favorite conservatory professors were Jewish and many actors I have worked with are Jewish.I studied all the books of the Bible that in my protestant faith are called “Old Testament”.So,I love the image of Jacob and Esau that you painted. It was all part of a genius flow that brings me to my point. Is it racist to think of Jewish people as having a better sense of humor, than Christians. In my whole life,I have preferred the theatrical writings of great play writers like Kaufmann and Hart. There is so much evidence of hysterical humor in the lyrics of Stephen Sondheim.I simply don’t know where to start ,or stop. These things have certainly contributed to the “niceness” of the public image. There are the Marx brothers and Milton Berle, and I know they are women ,but Streisand ,Midler, and Joan Rivers. These people have underscored the reason for a hero worship as my composition teacher would make a wry joke about my waltz tunes .I thought my writing was French ,or German sounding ,but he would come back with “how does a nice Southern Baptist boy write such Judische music”?So ,I giggled and said “Is it?”.To me,that was an enormous compliment.
