I figured it was to distinguish the author from Talia, given the author is also a Millienial.
I don’t think that the response you posit is snarky at all, but accurate, given the tone of the piece.
And yes, there was an intent to generalize, but i read it as a generalization of entitled, lazy, millenials. :)
