We put the USA in Asakusa

Asakusa has to be one of my favorite things about Toky0. It’s an old entertainment district developed during the Edo period that hosts a very red-themed set of ancient structures.

Checking out the bridge to Asakusa. Red to foreshadow the rest of what you’re about to see.

The first a gate called The Kaminarimon which means “Thunder Gate,” and it boasts a massive lantern and two jacked demon looking statues caged demon creatures on either side, each looking to be 20 feet tall.

Under the lantern…

This gate leads to the buddhist temple called Sensō-ji. Between the two impressive structures is a very traditional yet touristy set of shops. You can buy masks of ancient Japanese characters, katana swords for your inner samurai, Japanese clogs, kimonos (traditional garb), and all kinds of delicious treats. Umai!

At the end of the shop walk, you are greeted by the amazing architectural work that is the Sensō-ji. It’s almost overwhelming to take it all in.

People were wafting the smoke of the incense onto themselves for good luck.
Very zen.

There is much to discover around and behind the ancient buildings.

A secret musement park
Ninja on the roof
Not exactly sure what these are used for but they were beautiful
This unique building was the most modern looking of all at Asakusa. Don’t have any information on it as of yet but I will update.

As a bonus, here’s a special at Burger King. Unfortunately I didn’t make the purchase, but I can assume it’s amazing.

Asakusa is a definite must-see while in Tokyo.

Ja ne!
